To Join the Guild

Joining the Guild of All Souls provides many graces and benefits for the your departed loved ones.  These include perpetual remembrance at our Monthly Requiem Masses and the daily prayers of our priests and other members. Joining the Guild is easy. Just go to our MEMBERSHIP PAGE and fill out the form.

The Bead List

When you join the Guild you will be asked to provide the names of those faithful departed for whom you wish your fellow-members to pray. These names are added to our Bead List, an ancient and traditional name referring to the praying of the beads or Rosary.  The names you add become deceased members of the Guild.  We pray daily for the repose of their souls, and they are remembered regularly at our Masses and Divine Office.  Each month a Requiem Mass is said by our priests for the intentions of all our deceased members.  Additionally, you may have a Mass said for only those deceased members on your personal Bead List.  To have a Mass offered, go to our MASS INTENTIONS PAGE and fill out the form.

The Guild of All Souls

The Guild of All Souls is a Purgatorial confraternity of the Roman Catholic Church, and is the branch of the Guild of St. Peter ad Vincula responsible for praying for the Faithful Departed. It seeks to encourage its members to pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, especially with the official prayers of the Church (the Requiem Mass, Funeral Rites, and Office of the Dead), and to preserve the traditional Catholic customs for burial.

Praying for the Dead

It is the duty of every Christian to pray for the souls of those who have departed this life and await their final glory.  Our prayers and penances can alleviate their sufferings, and they rely on us constantly to implore God to have pity on on these our departed brethren.  It is the mission of the Guild of All Souls to provide the most helpful prayers possible for the Holy Souls in Purgatory--the Mass, the Divine Office, the Rosary--as well as other prayers indulgenced by the Church.

The plight of the Holy Souls in Purgatory is far too often ignored, and it is the purpose of this website to provide a simple means of fulfilling our most sacred duties towards the departed members of the Mystical Body. These Faithful Departed are an integral part of our Church, and they rely on those yet living in this vale of tears for comfort and assistance. They are unable to help themselves, and surely, it is one of our most consoling inspirations, when we lose a loved one, that we still have a role to play in helping them endure and hasten their path to final glory.

In publishing this website, we hope that it may be of use in such times of sorrowful bereavement. Not only does it alleviate the sufferings of our departed loved ones, but provides a positive means for us to show our love for them, comforting them spiritually now that we can no longer physically do so.

The prayers and services contained in this booklet can equally be of help in fulfilling our duties towards the Holy Souls in the month of November. This special time, set aside by the Church to remember those who have gone before us, can be a source of untold graces both for them and ourselves. Indulgenced prayers for the dead are particularly beneficial, and many of them can be said not only in November, but at any time of the year, to bring solace to the Church Suffering.

Wherever possible we have included details on these Indulgences, which may, of course, be obtained under the usual conditions of Confession and Communion, the intention to receive the indulgences, and the prayers for the Pope (or intentions of the Church).

Finally, this booklet may serve as a prayerbook for members of the Purgatorial Society or Guild of All Souls. Many of the prayers contained here are suitable for gatherings of such guilds, and may be used as common prayer as well as privately. The Requiem Mass and other parts of the Funeral Service are included, as well as the Office for the Dead, thus finally bringing to the layman the Church’s official prayers for the departed in both Latin and English.
